To leave a review:

1. Head to Etsy and click on your profile in the top corner

2. Click on “purchases and reviews”

3. Find the item you bought from my shop and click on leave a review.

Getting my first negative review on Etsy

I got my first negative feedback on a product a few months ago. Initially, I was frustrated that they thought the quality was not up to par. So I reached out to them via Etsy messages to ask if I could help in any way. Turns out that the print-on-demand company had printed the shirt with the design off-center. So of course it was a 3-star review!

Not only did this give me a chance to make it right for my customer, but it also led to improvement in my communication with my clients. I had to quickly troubleshoot so that I did not lose a customer.

After receiving a new shirt, the customer updated their review back to five stars. It was well worth my time and effort to reach out to them to fix the problem.

Why not just buy five-star reviews for your shop?

While it might be tempting to buy five-star reviews for your shop, it is not recommended. Etsy’s guidelines state that “all shops are required to have only authentic reviews from real buyers.”

If you are caught buying fake reviews, your shop could be subject to disciplinary action from Etsy, including suspension of your account. Not only that but customers can see through fake reviews and it will only hurt your business in the long run.

Can customers change their online reviews after their negative reviews?

Yes! Customers can change their reviews at any time by going back to their “purchases and reviews” page on Etsy. From there, they will be able to edit or delete their original review.

Often times customers will write new reviews if their issue has been resolved to a five-star review or if you have reached out to them to help fix the problem.

As a business owner, it is important to take the time to respond to all of your reviews, positive or negative. By doing so, you are showing your customers that you care about their experience and are willing to take the time to listen to their concerns.
